Who we are

Small RAIN is a 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States and operating in Burkina Faso. We are authorized by the Burkinabé government, and supported with the help of people from Burkina Faso and St. Louis, Missouri, Washington D.C., Austin, Chicago, and more.

Small RAIN has already helped provide healthcare and medicines for 10,000 children in Burkina Faso; but there are still millions with only limited access. After drawing from exhaustive research and testing on the part of UNICEF, Millennium Villages, and the World Health Organization, we’ve concluded that the best way to make a change is to establish an effective Community Health Worker system. The program is being adapted to the needs and conditions in 15 villages in the district of Tiébélé, Burkina Faso.

How it works:

  • Building a healthcare system that prevents illness, as well as treats sick children;
  • Providing health care within small villages that may be far from the nearest clinic;
  • Offering free healthcare for children in villages where people don’t have enough to eat, and cannot pay for medical care.

What Community Health Workers Do:
CHWs will provide urgent care, and education on sickness-prevention to children and families in Burkina Faso. In addition to making medicines free for sick children—specifically those under the age of five—CHWs will perform house-calls, train families in sanitation and hygiene practices, and provide essential materials like soap, and insecticide-treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria. More information on Community Health Workers can be found here.

Access to health care changes so much more than the life of one child – its impact encompasses families and whole villages. Imagine the difference it could make to a mother, a family – a whole village – to know that all their children have a good chance to live, and grow up healthy.

Please help us give them that future.

Mission, vision, and values:

Inclusion
We encourage all interested people — without regard to gender, race, religion, personal or political beliefs — to help us provide critical services to the very poor.

Service
We offer people the opportunity to volunteer in meaningful ways, knowing that their energy and expertise help us to stretch our resources as far as possible.

Partnership
We believe in the power of partnership. Our partners in both the U.S. and Burkina Faso will collaborate with us to provide healthcare directly to Burkinabè citizens.

Respect
We approach people of every culture with understanding, respect and willingness to learn. Small Rain is a non-sectarian organization that honors all faith traditions.

Excellence
We work to improve our programs, policies and procedures continuously, by using measurable accountability standards to refine our work and earn and retain donor trust.
